The Leffe Fathers are officially \u2018Canons Regular of Pr\u00e9montr\u00e9\u2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canons Regular of Pr\u00e9montr\u00e9<\/strong>:
Pr\u00e9montr\u00e9 is the place where Saint Norbert founded his order in the Forest of Saint-Gobain in France. In French-speaking countries they are known as \u2018Premonstratensians\u2019; in other countries they are also referred to as \u2018Norbertines\u2019, after the founder\u2019s name, or \u2018White Canons\u2019, in reference to the Premonstratensians\u2019 white habit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the very beginning of its existence in the 12th century, the Premonstratensian Order spread throughout Europe. By the end of the 13th century, the order had more than 600 houses. However, the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century and the French Revolution at the end of the 18th century dealt severe blows to the Premonstratensian houses: in much of Western Europe, abbeys were suppressed.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

From the second half of the 19th century onwards, a gradual revival of the Premonstratensian Order began to take shape, originating mainly in Belgium and Central Europe. Premonstratensian life then spread little by little across the five continents during the 20th century. Today, there are around 1,200 Premonstratensians spread across some 50 communities in around 20 countries. The Belgian abbeys are located in Leffe, Averbode<\/a>, Grimbergen<\/a>, Parc (Louvain)<\/a>, Postel<\/a> et Tongerlo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
