Every six years the Chapter General — the supreme authority in the Order — holds its meeting. Besides the Abbot General and his collaborators the Abbots of every canonry and a delegate from each of them take part in it. This, in Munich, Fr Bruno and Fr Paul, abbots, Fr Benoît, delegate, and Fr Hugues, translator, will participate to the Chapter.
Here is an excerpt from the Constitutions defining the Chapter General:
The principal aim of the Chapter General is to express and strengthen the bonds of charity, the union and the vitality of our Order. Therefore it will be a fraternal and pastoral colloquium to communicate experiences and problems of actuality in the religious life and apostolate of our communities. It will also be a place of reflection on the way our Order must answer to the current demands from Church and society; a way of examining and solving difficulties in the houses of the Order. It will be an opportunity to consider and take care of the fidelity of canonries and houses to the particular charism of the Order.
As supreme authority of the Order the Chapter General promulgates the opportune laws and guidelines. It will be a court, although fraternal, sometimes legal, for the excerpting of obstacles preventing the growth of communion in persons and communities. Affairs of importance requesting the exclusive intervention of the supreme authority are reserved to it.
